Tempest

by Victoria Aveyard

“ If you were a teenager when Red Queen came out, Victoria Aveyard has been waiting for you to grow up. Tempest is her adult debut, the first book in The Lyrian Sea duology, and it was written for the reader who wanted Pirates of the Caribbean to be a little darker and a lot more grown. Cat Rose has lived two lives. Before, she was Lady Catrine Rose of the Meridian Empire, married off to a cruel lord with a shrinking fortune. After, she is the Widow Rose, who runs a pirate tavern in the Lyrian Sea and answers to no one. When the Empire moves to wipe out the pirate republic, Cat is handed a choice: deliver Valerian Kane, the legendary captain with a strange connection to the song of the sea and the only man she has ever loved, or hang for it. Her mantra is three words long. My head or theirs.”
